In ASX sharemarket news, the share price of Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX: APT) will be on watch this morning as the world learned of the cryptocurrency that Facebook plans to launch.
However, it isn’t just a Facebook cryptocurrency, although it will start off as being available on Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp.
By the time Libra is launched it could have 100 partners, but at the moment it has around 30 with PayPal, eBay, Uber, Lyft, Visa and MasterCard currently already signed up.
Investors may worry that Afterpay could lose some of its allure if there’s this new way of paying for products.

BHP Group Ltd (ASX: BHP) is trying to solve its Chinese coal problem by selling a higher form of coal to Japanese customers instead according to the Australian Financial Review.
China has supposedly been restricting the amount of coal coming into the country, with Mt Arthur coal having 5,500 kilocalories of energy per kg. Japanese and South Korean customers want 6,000 kilocalories of energy per kg.
BHP has managed to find a way to improve the energy content with a process that includes extra washing, but it is uncertain how much of BHP’s coal production can be changed in this manner, plus it will lead to extra production costs.
