In ASX sharemarket news, pathology business Sonic Healthcare Limited (ASX: SHL) has announced that it has sold its 85% shareholding in GLP Systems in Germany to the US company Abbott.

Sonic said that GLP is not core to Sonic’s business, but it has developed a cutting-edge laboratory automation system which has been installed in eight Sonic laboratories with more planned. Sonic and GLP will continue to collaborate over the long term.

The sale of GLP will generate an after-tax profit for Sonic of around €30 million. About €80 million of cash will be returned to Sonic which will be used to repay existing Euro debt.

Galaxy Resources Limited (ASX: GXY) gave a Mt Cattlin shipment update after the market had closed yesterday for the second quarter of 2019.

The lithium miner said that to date in the second quarter Galaxy has completed two shipments totaling approximately 30,000 dry metric tonnes (dmt).

However, the third shipment of 15,000 dmt that was expected to leave Esperance Port before the end of the second quarter has been delayed and will now be part of the shipment scheduled for July 2019.
