ASX Sharemarket News

In ASX sharemarket news, BHP Group Ltd (ASX: BHP) has released its June 2019 update to the market.

The resources giant said that it exceeded its full year production guidance for petroleum and met revised guidance for copper and iron ore.

Metallurgical coal and energy coal production marginally below guidance mainly as a result of lower than expected wash plant yields and adverse weather impacts during the June 2019 quarter.

BHP CEO Andrew Mackenzie said: “Our overall production was broadly in line with last year, overcoming the impacts of weather, grade and natural field decline, and unplanned outages in the first halt.”

Graphite business Syrah Resources Ltd (ASX: SYR) has also reported its June 2019 quarter to investors.

Syrah said it produced 44kt of natural flake graphite, 8% lower than the first quarter largely because of minor equipment issues. The first half operating cash cost of production was US$567/t which was higher because of lower production.

The company sold 53kt in this quarter at an average graphite price of US$457/t compared to 48kt at US$469/t in the first quarter. Higher sale volumes came from contract volume improvements but the lower price came from Chinese fines pricing.
