The Perenti (ASX: PRN) share price saw the worst decline in the ASX 200 today, dropping by 10.7% because of an attack.
Perenti, formerly known as Ausdrill, is a global mining services business which operates in surface mining, underground mining and mining support services. It was founded in 1987 in Kalgoorlie and now has operations and offices in 13 countries across four continents with 8,000 employees.
Perenti Employees Attacked In Burkina Faso
About 40km from Semafo’s Bongou mine site in Burkina Faso, members of Perenti’s workforce in a convoy of five buses and escorted by military police was attacked.
The company advised that there seems to have been a number of fatalities and injuries. Perenti wrote in a statement:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this attack and with their families. We are considering the implications of the incident and of the security situation in Burkina Faso more generally and will be engaging with Semafo through this process.”
