Investing your time better with Nir Eyal

Life is all about maximising your choices in life and spending more time on the things that bring you joy (because money can’t buy time).

What would you be like if your superpower was being indistractable?

Today’s episode is a little different to our normal money and investing content, but in our opinion just as important. Our podcast is all about helping our community invest their time and money, better.

During this conversation we explore ways we can take back control of our time, schedules and life, and spend it in meaningful ways. To do this, we’ve got best-selling author of Hooked and Indistractable Nir Eyal on the show, who is an expert in this area.

Plus, we discuss the root cause of distractions, why you’re putting off doing less pleasant tasks like taxes and how we can better protect our time.

This is an important episode for listeners at any stage in their journey, because it’s all about maximising your choices in life and spending more time on the things that bring you joy (because money can’t buy time).

I’d encourage you to tune into this episode today through your favourite podcast player.

Do you value time or money more?

In Nir’s opinion, time is much more important than money.

Why?

Because you can always get more money but you can never get more time.

It’s not about being ‘productive’ every minute of the day, but living life with more intention than we typically do.

Why do we keep getting distracted?

Distractions stop you from achieving your goals, and essentially are any actions that move you away from the things that you want.

We love to blame technology, junk food, TV and other people for our lack of focus, but they’re purely a proxy expression of distraction, and not the root cause.

It’s not the pings and dings from our devices, in fact 90% of our distractions come from within. An internal feeling of discomfort that we don’t know how to deal with. And if we don’t spend time really getting to understand the root causes of our distraction, we will continue to find ways to distract ourselves.

Distractions will always exist, managing them is our responsibility.

Do you feel guilty for watching Netflix?

An important point Nir shares is that the time you plan to waste is not wasted time. It’s perfectly okay to spend time watching TV in the evenings, but it all comes down to doing it with intention.

If you put time aside in your calendar to watch TV, then suddenly you’ll be doing exactly what you planned and not simply mindlessly scrolling.

Keen to start investing your time better?

Apart from listening to the podcast I mentioned earlier, here’s some other great resources if you’re ready to invest your time better this year.
