Here’s the image Brian and Owen talked about. The chart uses the data from Brian’s MicroCap Club presentation, see below, which used BCG/Morgan Stanley data for top-performing US stocks between 1990 and 2009.

This chart shows which factors (growth, valuation multiples, free cash flow, etc.) ‘explain’ the returns of top-performing stocks over time. For example, BCG found that 74% of the return generated from top-performing stocks over 10 years could be explained by revenue growth!

In other words, the longer you invest — the more important growth becomes!
