Paul Taylor is the Head of Australian Equities at Fidelity International and portfolio manager of the Fidelity Australian Equities Fund. He joined our Founder Owen Rask for a discussion about his investment process, company research techniques, value investing and so much more.
The Fidelity Australian Equities Fund launched in June 2003 and as of June 2022, the fund had outperformed its benchmark, the S&P/ASX 200 Accumulation Index, by roughly 2.3% per annum. However, Paul’s time with Fidelity started in late 1990s. Meaning that over Paul’s career he has seen around 10 ‘crises’ of various stripes.
In this Australian Investors Podcast with Paul Taylor, the two investors cover questions like:
- If you could only pick 3 financial metrics from a company’s financials, what would you include?
- How do you go about valuing companies?
- How does Fidelity build a “360-degree view” of a company?
- What are the 2-3 key ideas other investors can learn from Paul’s market-beating returns?
- Why is a low portfolio turnover important to Paul and the team?
