This week’s topics

“All in” on lithium?

Go all in on lithium companies whilst shares are still low or branch out and spread the portfolio over multiple other minerals companies that make up a battery i.e. nickel, cobalt etc.

I’ve just started investing. Had a quick conversation with a day trader who was telling me about SYA, a lithium company. Just wanted to know your opinion on the lithium sector and your thoughts on how it might perform in the long run with the mass introduction of lithium battery powered cars.

ETFs

I have a question … not sure which Podcast to aim it at? So if you answer it via Podcast please let me know which one to hear it :> Vanguard VAS or Vanguard VHY – for a near 50-year-old which would be the better pick? (I feel like I’m 40).

From podcasts, I get the feeling VAS is the first choice for general community however recently you or Drew mentioned if nearing retirement VHY may be better for dividend income. Which would you tell your older cousin to go with?

Presently VAS yield is 7.17% VHY is 6.39% which is weird??

When I look at the US-listed IVV ETF it seems to be more closely tracking the S&P 500 index compared to the Australian-listed IVV ETF. Why is this?

For long term international share exposure, how would you compare the more concentrated iShares IOO with the more diverse Vanguard VGS ETF?

Are equal-weighted ETFs that track ASX 200/300 or s&p 500 worth getting to diversify across industries in a portfolio?

Companies / shares

What do you think about EML Payments Ltd (ASX: EML) and Tyro Payments (ASX: TYR) as of today. These have been a investor fav for a long time and no matter how bad the dip was, they always bounced back. I am nervous and want to understand what you would do if you had these in your portfolio. P.S Thank you for the awesome podcasts 🙂

Give me your hot take on IGL. Mine, it’s cheap, well managed and now a monopoly player in the Aus printing space.

The next PME!! Otherwise known as Pro Medicus Ltd (ASX: PME). I believe Seer Medical will be a successful Global Healthcare company soon. If you could buy it now through series A or B funding would you?!

Better buy? Pendal Group (ASX: PDL) or Perpetual Group (ASX: PPT).

DRPs & share registries

If using personal bank (i.e CommSec, Nabtrade) to invest, do I still need a share registry account for them to track my TFN or will it be given to them from by my bank? Similarly if I am trading through my Super Account will they provide my details to the Share Registry?

How can I get into US shares Reinvestment schemes? I’m considering making my first US share buy in a tech co. I love (AAPL) but not sure about a) reinvestment & b) franking credits.. & does it matter if it’s broker / direct owner?

Value investing

When looking at a fallen (stock price) SaaS company, what company metrics do you prioritise to see if it is cheap due to the market, or if it is rightfully well down?
