Preorder my book today for 25% OFF on Amazon and 18% OFF on Booktopia 📚
Hello money mavens,
In the past week, I’ve been to Gold Coast, Brisbane and Townsville as part of our Rask Roadshow, and I’ve had a great time meeting so many of our Rask community members in person. We’ve still got tickets to Port Macquarie, Newcastle, Wangaratta and Sydney – I’d love to see you there!
I’ve had so many conversations on everything from how to track down lost super to helping your teenage daughter learn about saving and investing, but some of my favourite conversations have been around happiness and psychology.
It has also been exciting to start talking about my upcoming book, Buying Happiness, which is coming out in less than a month now, and given it’s 25% off on Amazon (and 18% off through Booktopia*), I thought it was worth sharing with you today if you were interested in preordering a copy.
We spend a lot of time working hard to improve our finances, learning how to invest and planning out our careers, but often we forget to step back and really think about why we’re doing it.
All of us have different drivers behind our financial decisions, but there are some core similarities between us. Things like security, control over our time and financial freedom. It makes sense. The more choices and autonomy we have in our lives, the happier we are.
One of the questions we’ve been asking attendees at our events is to share with the person next to them something they love spending their time and money on.
When people start to talk about this, you can feel the energy change in the room. Much more so than when we’re talking about building an ETF portfolio and debt recycling. It’s ultimately how we use the resources we have (and the quality of our relationships), that makes life meaningful.
For one community member, their best purchase this year was a trampoline so they could have great experiences together with their two-year-old daughter. For another, they loved spending time on a trip to South America to hike the mountains. And someone else got a big happiness boost from buying high-quality socks.
Guess what? I’ve included plenty more examples in Buying Happiness for you to explore!
Plus, talking to your friends and family about the purchases that make them happy is a great way to kickstart a money conversation, where there hasn’t been one before.
Buying Happiness is a great starting point for this conversation, and it’s an easy read on the plane, train or beach. I talk about our relationship with money, how to have better money conversations, overcoming analysis paralysis (especially when choosing a broker) and share plenty of research-backed ways to boost your happiness by using the resources you already have!
If you like discounts, don’t forget to preorder your copy on Booktopia* or Amazon today.
I’ll be back in next week’s newsletter, talking about some of the reasons why we’re not investing, and how we can start to take the first step.
Cheers to our financial futures,
